The work of the Archipelagos Institute is not based on public funding nor greenwashing. We have consciously refrained from public funding for the past 27 years – not because we consider it inherently wrong, but because, in today’s (and past) unreliable environment, it does not promote either effectiveness or transparency. As for greenwashing, which in recent years has reached its peak in Greece, although we often receive related sponsorship proposals, we consistently refuse them – a principle to which we committed ourselves from the very first day of our work.

Our resources come from our educational and research activities, as well as from individuals and organizations that have believed in and supported our efforts for many years, based on trust and transparency. Along this challenging journey, every form of assistance is valuable. Beyond financial support, donations in kind are also of great importance: from an old car or an old boat, to the provision of scientific equipment or vessel equipment. 

Let us remember that the protection of our seas is a shared responsibility that we all carry throughout the 12 months of the year, and that each of us can find ways to contribute to this cause, either individually or collectively.
