Joint Statement – Archipelagos Initiative on Syrian Weapons

Joint Statement – Archipelagos Initiative on Syrian Weapons

by Archipelagos / Tuesday, 18 February 2014 / Published in Destructive Industrial Practices, Marine Conservation, Press Releases

Two more days left to join!

> See the Joint Statement with signatories here and below

Dear colleagues,

We believe you are aware of the major imminent threat to the Mediterranean Sea, caused by the planned destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons stockpile between Crete and Sicily, which may begin any day now. In an effort to exert pressure to the EU and UN authorities to cancel the process of destruction at sea and to immediately identify an appropriate safe land alternative, marine scientists and organisations from the Mediterranean and all over the world are CO-SIGNING THIS STATEMENT, which was drafted by experts from Greece, Italy, France and Spain.

If you agree with said statement, we would appreciate you signing it,

(1) either as an an organisation by adding your logo, country and website (if authorized to do so),

(2) or as an individual scientist by mentioning your full name, country, position as well as (optionally) the institution you work for. For this please send the information mentioned above in an email (logo attached as JPEG).

We would welcome your response by noon (12:00) GMT (UTC+0), Friday the 28th of February to Mr. Argyrios Choimes ([email protected]), in order to include your information in the final statement. We apologize for the very short notice, but unfortunately time is pressing.

Please help make this initiative known, by forwarding this email to other colleagues of yours. We look forward to working together to protect the Mediterranean.

Kind regards,

Anastasia Miliou
