Heavily injured Sea turtle / Dead Dolphin

Heavily injured Sea turtle / Dead Dolphin

by Archipelagos / Tuesday, 05 April 2016 / Published in Marine Mammals, News

During the past days, researchers of Archipelagos Institute found another dead dolphin in the area of NW Samos. It was an adult striped dolphin, which showed no obvious cause of death. A necropsy was conducted by Archipelagos and samples were collected to be sent for toxicological analysis.aerhre final 800x533

Yesterday, another unpleasant incident took place. A loggerhead turtle was found very weak, swimming by the coast for a long time. The sea turtle had obvious signs of injury on the shell caused by a speedboat and was generally in a bad state. After providing first aid to the sea turtle, the animal was sent by researchers of Archipelagos directly to Piraeus, with the help of Hellenic Seaways.ngsf final 800x533
The turtle was received by ARCHELON (Sea Turtle Rescue Center) in order to obtain specialized care until he can hopefully return to his natural environment.
