Leaving behind the welcoming port of Astros Kynourias, in the Argolic Gulf, the crew of “Triton” heads south, sailing along the coast of the Peloponnese, before setting an eastward course.
Throughout this research trip, we continue to document the problems affecting the coastal zone – where human impact is becoming increasingly intense, stemming from a wide range of causes: tourism pressure without adequate infrastructure, uncontrolled landfills and waste disposal sites that function like open dumps, underperforming wastewater treatment plants, all kinds of runoff ending up in the sea, overfishing by both professionals and amateurs, fish farms located in unsuitable areas, unregulated construction, and so much more…
