Alongside the training provided by the International School of the Sea of the Archipelagos Institute to undergraduate and postgraduate students from international universities, we have also been offering for nearly 30 years the opportunity for experiential and hands-on education to school students from the Aegean islands, other regions of Greece, and schools from abroad.

Today, we had the pleasure of hosting students from the Music School of Samos and the Collège Jacques Prévert in Herbignac, France, as part of their joint project “arts, expression et créativité”, which aims, among other things, to foster collaborative learning and to develop skills in creation, expression, and communication.

The education and outreach we provide concern not only the critical issues of protecting marine biodiversity and the broader natural environment in the face of increasing human pressure. Students also have the opportunity to gain a more meaningful sense of career orientation and to understand how they themselves can actively contribute to environmental protection.

This can be achieved either through choosing fields of study directly or indirectly related to the environmental sector—such as biology, environmental sciences, geography, chemistry, as well as other equally important disciplines like law, communication, and the arts—or through adopting a more balanced lifestyle that is more compatible with the natural environment.
