Striped dolphins in the northern Aegean; Archipelagos’ cetacean monitoring surveys continue this season with an emphasis on the effects of human-caused disturbance on population distribution.
As we are now in the middle of the summer and there are many more people out at sea in boats. We must remember that if we observe marine mammals:
– We never point the bow of the boat at them. Maintain a constant speed and give them the opportunity to approach you if they wish to do so.
– We do not forget that interactions are always two-way. As we observe them, they also observe and study us. They have excellent hearing, vision, spatial awareness and of course highly developed intelligence.
Let us enjoy our seas with respect!
