Aegean’s Hidden Treasure: The Mysterious Journey of the Risso’s Dolphin
Cinderella, a special resident of the Aegean!
One of the most important, but also less well-known, species of marine mammals that the research team of the Archipelago Institute has been studying for years is the Cinderella dolphin (Grampus griseus).
It lives in small groups and migrates over deep sea gorges and trenches. The first recording of its migration to the Aegean Sea was made in the fall of 2000, and the research is systematically continuing to this day to fill the many knowledge gaps related to this particular marine mammal.
If you are traveling to the Greek seas and notice rare species (such as dolphins, blowhowers, whales, seals, etc.) .. ), send us photos, videos or remarks at: observations@archipelago.gr

Risso’s Dolphin – A Unique Resident of the Aegean Sea!
One of the most important, yet lesser-known marine mammal species studied for years by the research team of the Archipelagos Institute is the Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus).
They live in small groups and migrate over deep-sea trenches and underwater canyons. The first recorded observation of its migration in the northeastern Aegean took place in the autumn of 2000, and research has continued systematically ever since, in an effort to fill the many knowledge gaps surrounding this unique marine mammal.
If you’re traveling through the Greek seas and come across rare species (dolphins, whales, seals, or other interesting marine life etc.), feel free to send us photos, videos, or observations at: observations@archipelago.gr
