Microplastic and Macroplastic Abundance in Marine Turtles stranded on Samos Island Coastline (North-Eastern Aegean Sea): Proposal of a Standardized Sampling Protocol

Pietroluongo, G., Quintana, B., Dias, V., Hellmann, V., Miliou, A. Microplastic and Macroplastic Abundance in Marine Turtles stranded on Samos Island Coastline (North-Eastern Aegean Sea): Proposal of a Standardized Sampling Protocol. 6th Mediterranean Conference on Marine Turtles 2018.

Introduction:

The increase of marine plastic pollution is a global threat to biodiversity and it represents a concerning issue in the marine ecosystem. In the Eastern Mediterranean Sea very few studies have been carried out on the presence of microplastics in marine turtles, despite their role as a bioindicator in the trophic chain.
