Yesterday, during the President of the Republic’s visit to the remote islands of Agathonisi and Lipsi, Mrs Katerina Sakellaropoulou visited the research vessel, Aegean Explorer.

During her meeting with Archipelagos Institute’s directors and heads of research, she was informed of Archipelagos’ actions and work over the past two decades, the Aegean Explorer’s conservation work and key priority issues concerning the survival of the rare biodiversity of the Greek Seas.

Among the key topics of discussion was the Aegean Marine Life Sanctuary, which is under construction on the island of Lipsi and upon completion will become a unique hospital for the sea, combining rehabilitation in a natural environment with innovative research and scientific education.

We consider it encouraging that the President of the Republic is greatly interested in these issues and we are committed to providing her with regular updates on the evolution of issues related to the protection of nature within the Greek Seas.
