Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, began an important collaboration with the Ric O’Barry – Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project the most important activist worldwide for releasing dolphins from captivity and reintroducing them to their natural environment. Ric O’Barry has dedicated the last 45 years fighting for this cause, after 10 years of working at a dolphinarium himself capturing and training dolphins. His actions have recently been publicly known after the awarded movie The Cove.

Ric O’Barry and the Dolphin Project are cooperating with Archipelagos, with a common goal; the protection of dolphins of the Mediterranean and especially in the Aegean Sea. The population data of dolphins in the Aegean collected from Archipelagos and other organizations are increasingly concerning. Major actions for their long term protection need to be implemented.

Other than this important collaboration, Ric O’Barry is a very inspirational figure for young researchers and students that are working towards the conservation actions of Archipelagos.
