The International School of Dusseldorf, Germany, with students coming from all over the world, is one of the 22 schools which is currently part of a study abroad programme in Lipsi island. This dynamic educational action of Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation and Operation Wallacea, offers the students applied training in a large number of fields of environmental research and conservation.
Apart from the 26 researchers who offer training in a wide variety of specialties in environmental sciences, the students also had two special teachers. Ric O Barry – a key partner of Archipelagos’ conservation efforts, who through his life’s work inspires both the new generations and also the older ones, but also the mayor of Lipsi Fotis Maggos, a young man, who until recently was a teacher, and inspires the students not with his words but with his actions.
