The Oceanographic Research Field Course between the Department of Marine Geography of Cardiff University, UK and Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation was successfully completed for the 12th successive year in the eastern Aegean Sea.

With a focus on the marine region between the islands of Samos, Ikaria and Fourni and with the use of Archipelagos oceanographic boat “Aegean Explorer” and the sailing boat “Pinelopi”, we completed an assessment of the status of the ecosystems and the consequences that anthropogenic activity causes to them.

These field courses that we offer for almost 20 years in the Aegean contribute to strengthen the position of Greece and the Aegean in the field of applied scientific training in environmental sciences internationally. These field courses aim, apart from providing knowledge and skills to the new generation of marine scientists, to inspire an ideology of environmental protection in those who will be called upon to deal with the numerous problems caused by our generation.
