After the very successful completion of the joint Oceanographic Research Course of Essex University and Archipelagos Institute, a group of 32 final year Marine Geography students and academics from Cardiff University, Wales, arrived on Samos.

For the 12th year the two institutions have worked closely together to implement a joint Oceanographic Research Course in the marine region between Samos, Fourni and Ikaria.

After the first day which was devoted to the coordination and planning of the research activities, the surveys have started. For one week in parallel with the data collections the final year students will be trained by expert scientists and researchers from both institutions in data collection at sea. In two Archipelagos research boats, they are using new technologies and relevant research protocols developed as a result of the collaboration between Archipelagos Institute and its partner universities.
