Charting the Aegean: Science in Motion

After two days of strong southern winds that kept us in the port of Evdilos, in northern Ikaria, we set out again at dawn into the open sea with Triton and its crew!
We make the most of every window of favourable weather to continue our multi-layered research, from studying surface waters for zooplankton presence and microplastic fibres, to monitoring conditions at depths of up to 1,000 meters, as well as monitoring the populations of the seven marine mammal species we study in the Aegean.
As human-induced threats increase alarmingly year by year, and ambitious official declarations for marine conservation remain largely on paper, the need for meaningful and immediate action is more urgent than ever.
