Yesterday morning, Archipelagos Marine Institute received numerous calls from residents of Samos Island about an injured jackal that was found on the edge of a road near to Vathy city.

Researchers of Archipelagos Institute went immediately to give first aid to the scared animal and transported it to a local veterinary clinic where it was diagnosed that the jackal was the victim of a car accident.

Then, without losing any precious time the jackal took the next ship to Piraeus and with the precious help of volunteers, it was transported to Athens to the rehabilitation center of ANIMA – the Association for the Protection and Welfare of Wildlife.

During the past month, despite the work overload, we have been offering first aid to a large number of injured wildlife that has been discovered by inhabitants and visitors of various eastern Aegean islands.

It is very important to provide immediate specialized first aid to these animals, so that they can be rescued and released as soon as possible back into their natural environment.

We would really like to thank all those who informed us about such incidents and help in the transport of injured wildlife.
